White House Canyon De Chelly
By: Cathy Jordan | Posted: November 8th, 2011
Deep in one of the many canyons of northern Arizona you will find the beautiful White House Ruins. The name chelly (or Chelley) is a Spanish borrowing of the Navajo word Tséyiʼ, which means “canyon” (literally “inside the rock”). The Spanish pronunciation of de Chelly was adapted into English, apparently through modelling after a French-like spelling pronunciation, and now Cathy Conner Jordan also known as WARI, captures the spirit of the ancients in this large scratchboard available in a limited edition print.
